2011 Nike Football Camp - Georgia

In 2007, we had an exceptional camp for the LBs at UGa. We spotted about a 8 clear cut D-IA talents and another 4-5 that will play some level of college football. This year’s UGa NFTC group eclipsed that group – they were nothing short of awesome! There were so many 6’2”+ athletes who could run and play, it got to be difficult to track them all. My apologies if we missed anyone, but I do think we found some diamonds in the rough whom are not being recruited heavily that can run with the big dogs. All in all, the amazing thing about this group is that the top of this ranked list has some tools that you cannot necessarily teach – especially the first three.

  1. TIE… Kwon Alexander (Oxford, AL) – Stone cold killer out there! Dominant in every drill, absolutely invincible in tackling matchup drills. His fantastic footwork and balance put him in a favorable position on every play. He’s got room to put muscle on too, but will most likely be a Will backer. Scary ability to break on the ball and can fill up space as well as hit the ball on the button.Ukeme Eligwe (Stone Mountain, GA) – Awesome frame with huge potential to get even bigger. Lightening quick, impressive acceleration, and plays with a lot of confidence. Extremely coachable and will play hard from pillar to post. Dominant hand strike stymied many of the athletic backs out of the backfield in 1on1s. This is one impressive athlete in a fairly large frame – he would play any LB position.
  2. Dillon Lee (Buford, GA) – As elite as the MVPs, this guy could also play any LB position (maybe even a sure handed TE). Unbelievable burst and acceleration to the football – he has access to very useful nitrous tank. Freakish size (6’2” 230#+) with the ability to put a little more on and still maintain his speed. Fierce competitor with a relentless pursuit for the football. Extremely aware of himself in space – major player in the middle of the field during half skelly.
  3. Raphael Kirby (Stephenson HS Stone Mountain, GA)– Great muscular build that is smooth in 360 degrees of motion. Optimal aggressiveness that he would accelerate and chase the ball, but still come to balance and avoid putting someone on the ground or excessive wear and tear on his body. Very strong hips and hands that attack while his feet and eyes stay active.
  4. Javiere Mitchell (Leeds, AL) – Long limbed and sinewy with fantastic explosion when finishing and changing direction. Despite a minor ankle sprain, he kept playing at less than 100% - tough and gives no excuses. He’ll gain some great weight at the next level and be complete and total beast.
  5. Beau Hankins (Jackson-Olin in Birmingham, AL – Really strong and beefy lower body allows this fella to generate tremendous power at the point of attack. And for as muscular as his lower half is, he still has very smooth and fluid hips.
  6. Kyle Williams (Parkview HS Lilburn in GA) – Very broad and athletic frame. Quick and nimble footwork allows his natural aggressive tendencies to get him in position to make a lot of plays.
  7. Nick Dawson (Berry HS Charlotte, NC) – Long limbed and creates leverage for himself even in the open field. Another full bodies young man who will gain major muscle a couple years into a college strength and conditioning program.
  8. Darreon Herring (Stephenson HS Stone Mountain, GA) – Fast as all get out! Blazing recovery speed and ultra aggressive hands allow him to take it to linemen and tight ends for a moderately sized LB.
  9. Kwontie Moore (Norfolk Christian HS Norfolk VA) – An absolute man-child – it’s hard to believe he is only a teen-ager. Huge frame, well muscled, but still has room to put on more mass! Plenty athletic for as massive as he is. He has a smoothness about him that is hard to pinpoint. As he learns the game more – consistency will follow and his stock will go through the roof.
  10. Holmes (Silver Bluff HS, Aiken, SC) – Does nothing but make plays – squatty, thick and agile Mike linebacker. Gets around very well for as broad as he is – and like I said, he finds himself around the ball constantly.
  11. Joseph Crochet (St. Pius X HS, Atlanta, GA) – Surprise find of the camp! 6’-plus, 200#-plus and growing, with good muscular foundation. Plays with great knee bend which allows him to go sideline to sideline. Did a fantastic job in 1on1s, especially when playing the ball in the air. We need to check out his film to see if he does in armor what he did at this camp. This kid made plays on some really good talent – he is more than worth the look!
  12. Preston Durham (Chapman HS, Inman, SC) – Extremely strong and aggressive – he improved as the camp went on, especially in man coverage. Great build and extremely coachable – this guy will learn and improve and cause a wreck on the grass.
  13. John Silas (Hillgrove HS, Powder Springs, GA) – Solid in all aspects of his game. Really liked his hustle and impressed that he took wise chances to make plays on balls in the air during skelly and 1on1s.

Honorable Mentions:

  • James Dean (Glynn Academy HS, Brunswick, GA) – Probably more of a strong safety based on his size and speed. Noteworthy athleticism and shiftiness.
  • Johnny O’Neal (West Laurens HS, Dexter, GA) – Only a Sophomore and he still stood out a bit amongst this elite group.
  • Kalo Oglesby (Southwest HS, Macon, GA) – High effort all the way, a total fireplug.
  • Nigel Bowden (Macon Central HS, Macon, GA) – One of the best tacklers of this group – great ability to coordinate his feet and body position.
